Required Compliance for the Board & Senior Management, Including BSA

Ann Brode-Harner, Brode Consulting Services, Inc.

Directors and senior management are ultimately responsible (and liable) for ensuring the financial institution has an effective compliance program. Board and management training is a key component of establishing and maintaining a strong compliance program. It is vital that directors understand the various compliance areas that require their annual review and approval.

This session will provide a list of those areas, with a focus on risk-based compliance management – including required training for Bank Secrecy Act. The high-risk areas will be covered in lay terms, with the board in mind (presenting the information most important to the board). Understand your responsibilities and liabilities before the examiner is at the door!

Regulatory Compliance for Lenders, Including BSA

Susan Costonis, Compliance Consulting and Training for Financial Institutions

January 10, 2014, marks the date of sweeping changes to mortgage lending compliance. In addition to mastering these new rules, regulators expect that lenders have received training on a wide range of compliance issues. Regulators continue to charge civil money penalties for several “high-profile” regulations such as BSA, flood, and HMDA reporting errors. This session will cover compliance regulations lenders must follow and outline many specific disclosures and timing requirements. Several of the 2014 changes will be highlighted and it will include several required annual training topics and the latest exam hot spots ranging from BSA, loan application steps, common compliance mistakes, and a variety of consumer protection laws.

Regulatory Compliance for the Frontline, Including BSA

Mary-Lou Heighes, Compliance Plus, Inc.

Being on the frontline requires more than just unlocking your teller drawer and waiting for accountholders and applicants to show up. There are abundant laws and regulations requiring you to: provide certain disclosures within specific timeframes; handle inquiries, complaints, and errors in a timely fashion; and take certain actions as required by law, rule, or regulation (such as filing CTRs or SARs). The alphabet soup of consumer compliance regulations, along with other specific regulations aimed at the financial industry, can be confusing. This webinar is designed to drill down to the essential components that must be followed daily.

Red Flags for ID Theft, Bribery & Privacy

Ann Brode-Harner, Brode Consulting Services, Inc.

Red Flags for Identity Theft, the Bribery Act, and the Privacy Act mandate regular training for everyone at the financial institution. Since employees are responsible for watching for identity theft, it’s important to have training on the different ways it can manifest so that the “red flags” are caught. The Bribery Act contains guidance to acceptable and professional behavior. The Privacy Act contains specifics regarding how to ensure the privacy of consumer information. This session will cover these three regulations/acts in enough depth to fulfill the training requirements and will arm staff with the information needed to ensure proper procedures are followed.

Regulatory Compliance for Deposit Operations, Including BSA

Mary-Lou Heighes, Compliance Plus, Inc.

From the Truth in Savings Act (TISA) to electronic funds transfers (Reg E) to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), the laws and regulations governing deposit operations affect your daily working environment. Providing disclosures and statements are just the tip of the iceberg. Reg E error resolution claims continue to be one of the hottest areas of consumer complaints to regulators. Knowing your rights and responsibilities regarding checks and other issues covered by the UCC can save your financial institution from potential losses. This webinar will provide an overview of TISA and Reg E requirements, the BSA recordkeeping and reporting requirements, check holds (Reg CC), the laws of checks (UCC), and limitations on transfers from non-transaction accounts (Reg D).

Robbery Preparedness for All Staff

Barry Thompson, Thompson Consulting Group, LLC

Critical incidents normally take financial institutions by surprise. Robbery can be a life-altering experience that most financial institution employees seldom take seriously. One moment it is life as usual, then suddenly a person or group of people change the victim’s perception of the world. Only properly trained staff will react appropriately when an incident occurs. This program will deliver the training needed to foresee, combat, and resolve various critical incidents that staff members at every level may encounter.
